Office and Finance Manager


Do you enjoy working with producers in the agriculture industry? Are you customer service oriented? Do you have excellent interpersonal skills with a team approach and a positive attitude? Do you enjoy collecting data and creating ways to communicate it effectively? Are you well organized amidst the need to multi- task and anticipate future tasks? Do you enjoy working in a small office environment where job descriptions are subject to change and do include menial tasks? Are you comfortable finding solutions on your own versus being told what to do?

That’s a lot of questions, but if they describe you, we’d like to hear from you. Northern Plains Potato Growers Association (NPPGA) is hiring an Office and Finance Manager. NPPGA is a non-profit organization that works to promote profitability and unity with 200 + potato growers across ND and northwestern MN through the development and promotion of quality potatoes and potato products. This position is responsible for many, unrelated duties so the applicant should be willing to do whatever is necessary in a small office setting. If you require lots of in- office social interaction or day-to-day duties that never change, then this role is not for you.

Our office is small with three people but this person may be the only one in the office much of the time. You must be comfortable working alone. This position can be scheduled for 30-35 hours/week, M-F. Office hours are M-F, 9:00 – 3:00 (or 4:00, as needed). Benefits are available at 30 hours/week or more. Currently, our office is located in EGF, but we may be relocating to a new location in GF/EGF yet to be determined. Currently, the primary functions in this role are:

  • managing the office functions including ordering supplies, managing equipment, property maintenance, chip sales, mail management, office cleaning
  • written and verbal communications
  • light accounting functions including some invoicing, bank deposits, coding, filing, receiving invoices and matching to checks, mailing checks – P/R and general accounting is done by an outside firm
  • local event planning and management
  • developing and conducting surveys
  • developing some promotional materials, pamphlets, mailings
  • answering phones
  • basic technology skills
  • secretarial duties in-office and for various board meetings
  • scheduling meetings
  • data collection, formatting, and reporting using Excel, Access
  • communicating with state agencies
  • grant funding reporting and management You will need to bring:
  • a can-do, positive, cheerful attitude with a commitment to take direction
  • exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • being okay with working independently and alone in an office setting
  • experience and knowledge in all Microsoft Office products
  • basic accounting knowledge/experience
  • a commitment to do your best and then learn how to be better
